Common Sense May Sink ObamaCare

A great column from the WSJ about the problems in Obama’s proposed nationalized health care and the growing public sentiment against it.

An excerpt:

“I suspect voters, the past few weeks, have been giving themselves an internal Q-and-A that goes something like this:

Will whatever health care bill is produced by Congress increase the deficit? “Of course.” Will it mean tax increases? “Of course.” Will it mean new fees or fines? “Probably.” Can I afford it right now? “No, I’m already getting clobbered.” Will it make the marketplace freer and better? “Probably not.” Is our health care system in crisis? “Yeah, it has been for years.” Is it the most pressing crisis right now? “No, the economy is.” Will a health-care bill improve the economy? “I doubt it.”

[…]

Here the Congressional Budget Office report that a health care bill would not save money but would instead cost more than a trillion dollars in the next decade was decisive. People say bureaucrats never do anything. The bureaucrats of CBO might have killed health care.”

Great Article on The Church in The Washington Post

The Washington Post gave some space to Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck and it was not wasted.

-

Here’s the opening paragraph:

-

“Here’s what Bono, Oprah, and the guru speakers on PBS won’t tell you: Jesus believed in organized religion and he founded an institution. Of course, Jesus had no patience for religious hacks and self-righteous wannabes, but he was still Jewish. And as Jew, he read the Holy Book, worshiped in the synagogue, and kept Torah. He did not start a movement of latte-drinking disciples who excelled in spiritual conversations. He founded the church (Matt. 16:18) and commissioned the apostles to proclaim the good news that Israel’s Messiah had come and the sins of the world could be forgiven through his death on the cross (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:14-36).”

Quick Catch Up

First of all, it’s officially under a month until we’re home!

There is a lot going on over here and we should have more to report in a little less than a week.  Right now I’m working on a writing project where I’m looking at the different general settings where the apostles and early church preached in Acts: houses, synagogues and the temple, marketplaces, and before councils and courts.  I’m also working on my last Tuesday night Bible study; which will be on Titus 3.  It’ll be sad to say goodbye to that group.

We’ve been having friends over to give away all of the stuff we’re not bringing back home to America because we’re trying to leave with as little as possible.  I think the biggest things we’ll be bringing home are our books.

Stay tuned for more very soon…

In the mean time, here are some interesting stories as of late.

PBS is banning religious programming but will they be consistent when it comes to their New Age programming, in particular Deepak Chopra’s?

Apparently there is an interesting battle starting between Google and Facebook over who will control the internet.

One of my favorite pastors and writers is Tim Keller.  He pastors a church in what must be one of the hardest cities in America to do so, New York.  He is academic while being relatable, and apologetic while being pastoral.  Christianity today recently did a biographical piece that some of you might find interesting.  Those of you in NYC should stop by Redeemer Presbyterian sometime.

Perhaps I'm Just Sick Of Revolutionaries

Kevin DeYoung’s blog is one of my favorites.  He’s one of the co-authors of Why We’re Not Emergent: By Two Guys Who Should Be; which was one of my favorite books last year.  He’s a young pastor in Michigan whose church is across the street from Michigan State University.  I like his blogs because they are always full of even-handed wisdom that does what all good pastors do; exegetes the Bible, heart, and culture.

This link to an excerpt from his upcoming book is a good example.  Hope you like it too.

Monday Morning Misc.

A few noteworthy news links:

Apparently the White House has their own media outlet now. They apparently tested the waters of excluding public media by holding an event and barring outside press from covering it and, instead, covered it themselves.  This could go interesting places…

A strange story from San Diego about the city placing fines on, and requiring permits from, a home Bible study.  Is this a harbinger of some kind?

An article from the Wall Street Journal about positions Obama took on the campaign trail and that he is taking now (hint: they’re not the same), and the difference between campainging and governing.

A great Puritan prayer from the Valley of Vision collection.
